Reigning UFC Lightweight Champion Ilia Topuria has playfully jabbed at top contender Arman Tsarukyan, who has been designated as the backup fighter for the upcoming lightweight title unification bout between Topuria and Justin Gaethje. The fight is scheduled for June 14.
Topuria, who has never been shy about expressing his opinions on Tsarukyan, took to social media to comment on the news. He humorously stated, “He’s always a backup,” implying this is a recurring role for Tsarukyan.
In a separate interview, Topuria emphasized his indifference to who his opponent might be on June 14, expressing unwavering confidence in his ability to secure a win regardless of the circumstances. “I absolutely don’t care about it. I’m going to be in that octagon no matter what happens… the result is the same with everyone,” he asserted.
Justin Gaethje Issues Warning to Topuria
Meanwhile, Justin Gaethje, the current interim UFC Lightweight Champion, has issued a strong warning to Ilia Topuria ahead of their clash. Gaethje vowed to put everything on the line, promising to deliver a knockout performance on June 14.
Gaethje acknowledged that this fight could be his last if he doesn’t emerge victorious, but he remains resolute in his determination to risk it all for the undisputed title. He declared, “I am so ready to put it on the line, I don’t give a f*ck if I lose or win. I am coming in there, and I am gonna knock this motherf**er out. I will be throwing missiles on the White House lawn on June 14. I promise you that.”
