Dustin Poirier has offered his scathing assessment of Nate Diaz’s recent MMA fight against Mike Perry, which resulted in a TKO defeat for Diaz. Diaz, returning to MMA at MVP MMA 1, faced a challenging bout against the formidable Mike Perry. Despite landing some strikes, Diaz was largely outmatched by Perry’s relentless pressure and high-volume striking. By the end of the second round, Diaz was visibly exhausted and heavily bloodied, leading his corner to stop the fight.
Following the loss, Diaz has indicated no immediate plans for retirement and expressed a desire for a rematch with Perry once he has recovered.
Poirier’s Harsh Critique of Diaz
Dustin Poirier believes Nate Diaz should temper his public comments after his performance against Mike Perry, suggesting that Diaz needs to take a break. Speaking on “Deep Waters,” Poirier stated:
“After the way he looked on Saturday night, he can’t talk right now. He needs to take a break, get some sleep, and get some rest. He looked like dog sh*t. He looked like he didn’t want to be in there, looked like a punching bag, looked off balance, and his timing was horrible.”
Poirier also reiterated his willingness to fight Diaz, even at welterweight (170 pounds), and indicated he would re-enter the drug testing pool if the fight were to be made.
“My invitation is still out there. At 170, I will go back in the drug testing protocol. I WILL KNOCK NATE DIAZ COMPLETE OUT.”
Previously, after Diaz’s UFC departure, Poirier had expressed interest in a boxing match under the Zuffa Boxing banner, but this prospect did not materialize.
