Colby Covington, who had expressed frustration with his lack of activity, has now officially concluded his tenure with the UFC. Reports from various media outlets earlier today confirmed his departure, and the UFC’s official athlete database now lists “Chaos” as retired.
Covington’s most recent octagon appearance was in December 2024, where he suffered a TKO loss in the third round against Joaquin Buckley due to a doctor’s stoppage.
Earlier this year, the former interim UFC welterweight champion was reportedly keen to compete on the June 14 White House event, but his name never appeared on the official fight card.
There were also rumors of Covington moving up to middleweight to face Bo Nickal. However, Nickal claimed that Covington was unwilling to accept the fight and declined the matchup.
Following this, Covington stated that Hunter Campbell had suggested he face the winner of the UFC Winnipeg main event between Mike Malott and Gilbert Burns. Despite Malott winning the bout, there has been no further development regarding a potential fight with Covington.
The 38-year-old fighter retires from the UFC with a professional record of 12 wins and 5 losses. His notable victories include wins over Jorge Masvidal, Robbie Lawler, and Tyron Woodley.
“Chaos” has been a vocal critic of fighter pay within the UFC, frequently voicing his opinion that the promotion underpays its athletes. He has also spoken extensively about his extended periods of inactivity.
What’s Next for Colby Covington?
Beyond the UFC, Colby Covington has remained active in the sport of wrestling, competing in Real American Freestyle (RAF) events. He has secured victories against Luke Rockhold and Dillon Danis. This month, he is scheduled to compete against Chris Weidman at RAF 09.
With Covington’s departure from the UFC, it remains to be seen if he intends to continue competing. Promotions such as MVP, BKFC, or similar organizations would likely be interested in signing a fighter known for his outspoken personality, ability to attract attention by playing the heel role, and potential championship aspirations.
