Preview Emiliano Sordi Returns as “2.0” Version, Eyes More PFL Gold Post-Sioux Falls

Emiliano Sordi is set to re-enter the PFL Smart Cage on May 2nd in Sioux Falls for a light heavyweight bout against Simeon Powell. The former PFL champion has been away from the promotion for nearly five years, competing in other organizations like Karate Combat and Gamebred Bare Knuckle MMA during that time. Reflecting on his return to the PFL after almost four years, Sordi expressed his excitement:

“I feel at home in the PFL and I’m very happy to be back. But I’m a completely different fighter now, like a new version – a 2.0. I bring new energy and more experience because I faced many losses after my previous PFL season. I’m thrilled to get back in there and put on a show on May second.”

Sordi boasts an impressive PFL legacy, having won the 2019 light heavyweight championship and delivered one of the most dominant seasons in the promotion’s history. When asked about returning to the PFL and the potential to add to his decorated record, Sordi shared his strategy:

“I want to replicate that same success. While it’s not a tournament format now, I’m the same fighter with the same style. My focus will be on landing powerful punches, aiming for quick finishes, and entertaining the fans to make them happy.”

Sordi also commented on the PFL’s evolution away from its traditional tournament structure and his thoughts on these changes given his history with the organization:

“It’s different now. When I won in ’19, it was a different era. We had five fights in six months, and sometimes two fights in one night. Now it’s a fight-by-fight approach. To be honest, I’m not sure how the fights are scheduled, but my goal is to win the belt as quickly as possible, regardless of the format.”

Emiliano Sordi Anticipates a Top-Tier Performance at PFL Sioux Falls

Looking ahead to his matchup this weekend, Sordi shared his assessment of Simeon Powell:

“I believe he’s a true fighter. He’s faced strong opponents in the PFL, including in Europe, and his recent fight against ‘Shoe Face’ was impressive. He’s a tough competitor, a skilled striker with grappling abilities, and he always shows up in peak physical condition. I’m confident that our fight on May 2nd will be the best on the card, 100%.”

Tournament or no tournament, it’s trying to get the title very quickly.”
