Conor McGregor, the former two-division UFC champion, is planning to maintain an active fighting career after his upcoming July showdown with Max Holloway. His manager, Audie Attar, has confirmed that “The Notorious” intends to avoid lengthy layoffs between fights moving forward.
McGregor is set to make his return to the octagon at UFC 329, headlining the event in a five-round welterweight rematch against Holloway. This marks his first fight in five years. Following this bout, McGregor is expected to have one fight remaining on his current contract. However, the details of his future with the UFC remain somewhat uncertain, especially in light of the promotion’s recent deal with Paramount.
Despite this, McGregor has indicated that the UFC has presented him with a financially attractive offer, and he feels more motivated than ever. He recently commented on the Holloway rematch, stating:
“I’ve received a great deal from the UFC. They have finally shown me the respect I deserve.”
McGregor’s manager, Audie Attar, is confident that McGregor’s fighting career will enter a new phase of activity. Attar told MMA Junkie that after the Holloway fight, McGregor will not be taking another year-long break. “He’s looking to stay active. This is the new season… The next fight [after Holloway], we’re not gonna wait a year. That’s for sure,” Attar said.
Should McGregor’s return be successful, several compelling matchups are already on the horizon. Ilia Topuria has publicly expressed his desire to face McGregor. Michael Chandler also remains keen on a fight with the Irish superstar. Furthermore, a potential superfight between McGregor and lightweight champion Islam Makhachev, if brokered by UFC leadership, would be a monumental event in MMA history.
