Jack Della Maddalena has broken his silence after a significant defeat to Carlos Prates at UFC Perth earlier this month.
The Australian fighter was aiming to rebound against “The Nightmare” following his previous title loss to Islam Makhachev at UFC 322. However, Prates proved a formidable opponent, dominating the bout and making it difficult for Della Maddalena to establish any momentum.
Despite a strong opening round where Della Maddalena attempted takedowns, Prates landed the more impactful strikes, effectively mixing his offense and controlling the pace. While Prates couldn’t secure a knockout, he inflicted considerable damage with brutal knees, powerful leg kicks, and other heavy shots, ultimately leading to a third-round TKO victory when Della Maddalena was unable to continue.
This marks the second consecutive loss for the 29-year-old Australian, who currently holds the number four ranking in the welterweight division. Given the significant damage sustained in the Prates fight, Della Maddalena is expected to be sidelined for the next 3-4 months. Fans can anticipate his return to the octagon later this year, likely facing an opponent lower in the rankings.
Jack Della Maddalena’s Statement After UFC Perth Loss
Despite two recent setbacks, the 29-year-old fighter remains determined and believes he still has much to offer the UFC and its fans. Della Maddalena shared the following message on his Instagram account after the loss in Perth:
“Thanks for all the love and support. I could not be prouder to represent my gym @scrappy_mma_and_fitness, my family, my city and country. Not the desired result this time around but it was in line with the desired challenge; fighting the most vicious and toughest opponents. 🫡”
