Preview Dustin Poirier: Zuffa Boxing Not an Option for UFC Fighters

UFC lightweight contender Dustin Poirier has expressed his strong belief that Zuffa Boxing, the boxing promotion arm of the UFC’s parent company, is not a realistic avenue for current UFC fighters to pursue.

Poirier, a prominent figure in the mixed martial arts world, explained that the intricate contractual obligations and the very nature of being a UFC athlete make transitioning to Zuffa Boxing highly improbable.

“I don’t see that being an option for us,” Poirier stated when asked about the possibility of UFC fighters competing under the Zuffa Boxing banner. He elaborated on the complexities, suggesting that fighters are largely tied to their existing UFC agreements, which often don’t permit simultaneous participation in other combat sports promotions, especially those owned by the same parent company but operating under a different discipline.

The fighter highlighted that the UFC’s primary focus is on mixed martial arts, and while Zuffa Boxing exists, its operational framework and fighter commitments are distinct. This organizational separation and contractual exclusivity are significant barriers to cross-promotional participation for active UFC roster members.

Poirier’s insights suggest that the current structure of professional combat sports, particularly within the Zuffa umbrella, creates a clear division between MMA and boxing, making it difficult for athletes to navigate both simultaneously under the same corporate ownership.
