Jon Jones Sends Mixed Signals on Retirement, Leaves UFC Return Door Open

Jon Jones has recently caused a stir among fans by hinting at a potential retirement from the UFC. However, the situation appears more complex.

Jones officially retired in 2025, relinquishing his heavyweight title rather than facing interim champion Tom Aspinall. Shortly after his retirement announcement, Jones re-entered the UFC's testing pool. He and Alex Pereira had a public exchange, leading many to believe a highly anticipated superfight between them was set for June 14 at the White House.

However, Jones' name was notably absent from the UFC 250 fight card announcement. UFC President Dana White stated that Jones' retirement was due to severe arthritis and that there were no plans for him to compete on the June 14 event. In contrast, Jones claimed he was in negotiations with the UFC but felt the offer was too low and requested his release if the promotion believed he had nothing more to offer.

In a recent interview with Red Corner MMA, Jones expressed his current stance on retirement:

"My gloves are hung up. I am chilling these days. You got business, Jon Jones. No more fighting Jon Jones."

Jon Jones Refuses to Shut Door on UFC Return

Despite his earlier statements, Jon Jones has indicated that he has not completely closed the door on a return to the UFC. In a separate interview with The Schmo, Jones revealed that he has been in discussions with UFC Chief Business Officer Hunter Campbell about a potential comeback. Following stem cell treatment for hip pain, Jones feels physically better and is currently focused on coaching Gable Steveson, who is rumored to be close to signing with the UFC.

"We had that conversation tonight. I took a stem cell right before the White House card was curated. I’m starting to feel the effects. I feel really good physically. Let’s not put any pressure on anything. I’m gonna focus on coaching Gable right now, but who knows what the future holds."
