UFC fighter Ilia Topuria is stepping further into the spotlight with a new three-part docuseries titled "Los Topuria," set to be released on HBO Max in June. The series will chronicle his journey from a featherweight contender to headlining one of the UFC's most anticipated events. Each 50-minute episode will trace his life from the moment he first won UFC gold in the featherweight division through his current status as a two-division champion.

What "Los Topuria" Explores

The docuseries follows Topuria and his close circle as he navigates life as a champion, deals with family expectations, and transitions from a rising prospect to a significant global name in the UFC. According to HBO Max's Spanish press materials, the production offers a look into his life both inside and outside the gym, at home, and during business meetings. The aim is to portray him not only as a cage fighter but also as a father, son, brother, friend, and entrepreneur.

Filmed during the period that saw him become a featherweight king and then a lightweight champion, "Los Topuria" begins after his initial featherweight title victory and continues up to his preparation for the June lightweight title unification bout against Justin Gaethje. This fight is scheduled to take place at the UFC event planned for the White House on June 14. The series is thus positioned as a promotional companion to what UFC officials are calling the biggest event in the company's history.

"Los Topuria" is produced by the Spanish company Señor Mono, which was also behind "Matador," a 2024 feature documentary that documented his rise through the UFC and his title-winning performance against Alexander Volkanovski. While "Matador" focused on his athletic achievements, the new series is described as more personal and contemporary, filmed in real-time during training camps, media tours, and family moments, rather than as a retrospective film.

The docuseries consists of three 50-minute episodes and will be available on HBO Max in all regions where the service operates. This release positions Topuria as a prominent figure in combat sports for the platform, granting the Georgian-Spanish champion broad reach across Europe, the Americas, and other key MMA markets served by HBO Max.

"Los Topuria" arrives at a time when Topuria's personal life has garnered considerable media attention. Spanish and international media have reported on a public marital separation that involved legal complaints, allegations of domestic and gender violence, and court summons in Spain, all of which Topuria has denied. There is speculation within the MMA media community as to whether the series will address his ongoing divorce and the associated challenges, or if it will concentrate solely on his training and family support system.

HBO Max's promotional materials emphasize a narrative of family support, highlighting the crucial role of his relatives, close friends, and coaches as fundamental "pillars" during his journey to becoming a two-division UFC champion. This approach suggests that "Los Topuria" aims to balance the star power of an undefeated champion with an intimate portrayal of the individuals who have shaped his career, all while coinciding with his upcoming fight against Justin Gaethje at the White House in June.

Topuria's involvement with WOW FC has proven to be a successful domestic venture, further boosted by Cristiano Ronaldo's investment as a shareholder and his association with the league. According to the Spanish outlet Marca, WOW FC has become the dominant force in the national MMA scene, with event attendance reportedly increasing by over 400 percent year-on-year.
