Despite Anthony Joshua reportedly nearing a significant new multi-fight agreement, Tyson Fury`s manager has indicated that a return from retirement cannot be entirely ruled out.

Fury announced his surprising retirement in January 2024, just one month after suffering his second defeat to Oleksandr Usyk. This decision appeared to end the possibility of a major “Battle of Britain” clash against Joshua, especially as AJ had recently been knocked out by Daniel Dubois in September.

Anthony Joshua is set for a new multi-fight deal

Following his loss and subsequent elbow surgery, Joshua has been in discussions with Saudi boxing figure Turki Alalshikh concerning a multi-fight contract.

Spencer Brown, who serves as Fury`s manager and is associated with Alalshikh, spoke to Boxing News. He emphasized the strategic planning approach of the Saudi promoters, noting they focus on establishing a clear path forward before finalizing deals. Brown commented positively on Joshua`s potential deal, calling it “Amazing. Amazing.”

Regarding Fury`s retirement status, Brown remarked:

Like I say, we never know though, do we? But he’s very busy at the moment. He’s actually in the best place I’ve ever seen him. He’s 12lbs above his fighting weight as well. He looks really well. He’s happy. He’s got his kids with him constantly. Will he fight again? He’s the Gypsy King, who knows?

Joshua, 35, opted not for an immediate rematch with Daniel Dubois, 27, after his brutal knockout loss at Wembley. Instead, Dubois, 27, is now scheduled to rematch Usyk, 38, on July 19th, exactly two years after Usyk previously stopped him.

Anthony Joshua`s promoter, Eddie Hearn, continues to express hope that Tyson Fury will come out of retirement for a fight against Joshua.

However, the “Gypsy King” himself offered his perspective in May:

I hear a lot of talk about the Gypsy King returning to boxing and I ask this question: for what? What would I return for? More belts? I`ve won 22 of them. I`ve been rumped, that`s it, fair play to them, they got their use out of me. But I`m happy, I am happy, content with what I have achieved and accomplished. I`ve been around the world and back again. And this is what retirement looks like for the Gypsy King, not too shabby.
