Event Overview

The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) returns to Canada this weekend, with Vancouver hosting a crucial middleweight showdown. Set for October 18, rising middleweight contender Reinier de Ridder is slated for a rapid return to action following his recent triumph, stepping in on short notice.

Originally booked to face Anthony Hernandez, the Dutch sensation will now headline the event against veteran contender Brendan Allen. Popular welterweight Kevin Holland is also scheduled to compete, aiming to disrupt the local crowd`s spirits in a co-main event bout against Ontario`s own Mike Malott.

Additionally, a former title challenger will appear on the main card, looking to defeat another local favorite in his pursuit of a bantamweight championship opportunity. This marks the UFC`s second visit to Canada this year, and we take a closer look at what to expect from UFC Vancouver.

Reinier de Ridder: A Future Threat to Khamzat Chimaev?

Since making his UFC debut, former two-division ONE Championship titleholder Reinier de Ridder has impressed with a series of remarkable victories. Having previously submitted Kevin Holland and recently halting the momentum of former champion Robert Whittaker in a significant Abu Dhabi main event, De Ridder is gaining considerable attention.

Positioned as a formidable force in the middleweight division, de Ridder has been mentioned as a possible future opponent for the undefeated Khamzat Chimaev, especially after Chimaev’s title win over Dricus du Plessis in August.

According to former welterweight title contender Gilbert Burns, de Ridder stands out as the fighter with the highest probability of dethroning Chimaev among current middleweights.

Speaking on the Buiten De Kooi MMA podcast, Burns stated, “I think from the whole division, he’s (de Ridder) the one that has more chance.” He added, “I was talking to Chimaev’s jiu-jitsu coach, we fought before, and I asked, ‘Who do you think is the hardest fight?’”

Burns continued, “I said I think it’s RDR, and then he said, ‘Me too.’ I have all of RDR’s videos. I watched everything already. It’s not an easy fight. He needs to beat one more guy.”
