Tye Ruotolo is set to defend his ONE Welterweight Submission Grappling Championship against Pawel Jaworski in the co-main event of ONE Fight Night 41 on March 13th. Following two dominant MMA victories where he finished previously undefeated opponents, Ruotolo shared his thoughts on returning to submission grappling for another title defense.

“It’s funny, I was so engrossed in MMA training and the sport in general. Coming back to jiu-jitsu, I started reflecting on what I’d been missing. It’s been an enjoyable process of ‘dusting off the cobwebs.’ I never truly felt I could lose my jiu-jitsu skills, having practiced my whole life. The challenge of unraveling the intricate problems unique to jiu-jitsu, distinct from MMA, has been stimulating. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed engaging my mind in that way again, and I’ve truly reconnected with my love for jiu-jitsu training. I’m incredibly excited to defend my title against Pawel, a highly skilled and notoriously dangerous leg locker.”

When questioned whether he views leg locks as Jaworski’s primary weapon in their upcoming championship bout, Tye Ruotolo asserted:

“Pawel, in my opinion, has a singular path to victory in our fight, and that’s through leg locks. It’s his specialty, and he dedicates his focus to them. From what I’ve gathered, he’s among the world’s elite and most dangerous leg lockers, so I certainly won’t underestimate him.” He continued with confidence, “However, his primary offensive strategy aligns with my strongest defensive attribute. I genuinely believe my leg lock defense is arguably the best in the world, said in the most humble way possible. I feel impervious to leg locks, and we’ll soon put that conviction to the test. Pawel is incredibly dangerous, and I’m eager to challenge that belief. It’s been a long time since someone truly threatened my leg.”

Tye Ruotolo: “I’m Dangerous” Entering ONE Fight Night 41 Title Defense

Acknowledging Jaworski’s potent heel hook threat while emphasizing his own versatile skill set, the reigning champion Tye Ruotolo remarked:

“I strive for realism. False confidence isn’t beneficial, though genuine confidence is vital. I understand my capabilities; I can finish a match in any position – with my own leg locks, armbars, or chokes. I am dangerous, and I recognize that he is dangerous too. So, I’ll approach this match for what it is and come in fiercely.”
