Reports indicate that Patricio `Pitbull`, a former Bellator champion, is set to compete against a rising featherweight contender who recently challenged him.

Patricio `Pitbull` Freire aims for a better outcome in his second UFC fight, looking to make a stronger impression on fans upon his return later this summer.

Pitbull`s first appearance in the UFC at UFC 314 resulted in a unanimous decision loss to former title challenger Yair Rodríguez. This defeat ended his four-fight winning streak in the featherweight division, which included a rematch win against AJ McKee at Bellator 277.

Following a difficult contract situation with PFL, Pitbull secured his release and subsequently signed with the UFC, a significant move for the highly-regarded fighter. Although his UFC 314 opponent was tough, his next fight in the UFC promises equally strong competition.

Patricio ‘Pitbull’ Set for Second Octagon Appearance

According to recent reports, Pitbull is expected to face fellow UFC featherweight contender Dan Ige. The fight is rumored to take place at UFC 318 in Chicago.

Ige`s last outing at UFC 314 saw him defeat Sean Woodson via controversial TKO. This victory followed a challenging period where Ige had lost three of his preceding four bouts, including a short-notice fight against Diego Lopes at UFC 303.

With recent wins over fighters such as Nate Landwehr, Damon Jackson, and Andre Fili, Ige is aiming to climb back into contention for the featherweight title. A consistent presence in the division, he has become a fan favorite since appearing on Dana White’s Contender Series in 2017.

Following his victory at UFC 314, Ige publicly challenged Pitbull, acknowledging the former Bellator two-division champion as an MMA legend. Pitbull was widely considered the top fighter in Bellator history before leaving the promotion.

Featherweight Title Picture: Rumors About Alexander Volkanovski`s Next Opponent

If the proposed Pitbull vs. Ige bout happens, it would occur during a period of uncertainty at the top of the featherweight division. While UFC champion Alexander Volkanovski was initially expected to face Movsar Evloev after UFC 314, reports suggest the UFC has different plans for the undefeated Evloev.

Current rumors indicate that Volkanovski might defend his title against Yair Rodríguez later this year. Volkanovski previously defeated Rodriguez in a title unification match at UFC 290.

Additionally, a fight between Jean Silva and Diego Lopes is reportedly being considered, though this remains unconfirmed. Silva recently called for a title shot after his win over Bryce Mitchell at UFC 314.

An impressive performance against Ige could significantly boost Pitbull`s standing and potentially move him closer to a shot at the featherweight title.
