Patchy Mix has become the most prominent free agent in combat sports.

The former Bellator bantamweight champion is now free to sign elsewhere after the PFL announced on Tuesday that they mutually agreed not to extend his contract. This decision allows him to seek opportunities with other promotions.

In a statement issued Tuesday, PFL officials confirmed the mutual agreement:

“Professional Fighters League and Patchy Mix have mutually agreed to not extend his contract. We both decided this is the best course of action for PFL and him.”

The statement added:

“Patchy is a fantastic fighter and we wish him well. PFL is excited to crown our next 135 pound champion in the PFL World Tournament.”

This development concludes a situation that unfolded over several months. Mix had publicly expressed frustration with inactivity, particularly after a planned fight against Leandro Higo in November was cancelled. Following this cancellation, Mix requested his release from the PFL.

He continued to voice his dissatisfaction with the promotion regarding his lack of fights, with his last bout being a win against Magomed Magomedov in a rematch in May 2024.

This victory marked his seventh straight win, bringing his impressive career record to 20-1.

Due to the significant layoff that prompted his release request, Mix was unable to defend his Bellator title or extend his winning streak further within the promotion.

It now seems both parties have reached a mutual understanding to separate.

It`s widely anticipated that the UFC will show immediate interest in signing Mix, who is arguably the premier bantamweight outside of their current roster. He trains in Las Vegas and has worked with the current UFC bantamweight champion, Merab Dvalishvili, and has frequently stated his desire to compete in the UFC.

With his departure from the PFL, it appears Mix may finally have the chance to achieve that goal.
