UFC lightweight contender Paddy Pimblett recently experienced his first professional defeat in the octagon, losing to Justin Gaethje via unanimous decision in the main event of UFC 324. The highly anticipated five-round bout, contested for the interim 155-pound championship, saw Gaethje deliver significant blows, dropping and visibly staggering Pimblett multiple times throughout the fight.
Despite the grueling nature of the contest, Pimblett has confirmed he emerged without serious injuries, specifically noting the absence of a concussion. He is now expressing a strong desire for a rapid return to competition, much sooner than many observers might have anticipated.
On his YouTube channel, Pimblett confidently announced his readiness. “I’ll be back in the summer,” he stated. “Just let me know when and where, Hunter [Campbell], Dana [White], Sean [Shelby], and I’m ready to go.” He directly addressed concerns about his health, adding, “I haven’t got any injuries. People keep going, ‘Oh, the damage he took, he’s going to have to take months off.’ I didn’t even have a concussion. I never had no headaches after it. All I had was a marked face and sore eye balls after getting poked in them.”
Beyond a targeted timeframe, Pimblett has also identified a roster of potential opponents for his comeback fight. High on his list is Benoit Saint Denis, a fighter who has recently surpassed Pimblett in the official rankings.
Pimblett openly voiced his displeasure regarding Saint Denis’s recent ascent. “It pissed me off that Saint Denis has moved above me for beating that bum Dan Hooker,” he remarked, questioning the ranking adjustment. “Why has Saint Denis moved above me for beating the bum Dan Hooker, who’s f***ing sh*t? What’s going on there?”
Emphasizing his competitive spirit, Pimblett reiterated his willingness to face any challenger. “I’ll fight anyone,” he asserted. “I just know whatever name gets sent to me on a contract, I sign it and I fight them.” He views a matchup with Saint Denis as particularly appealing, describing it as a showdown between “Europe’s two best lightweights.” Additionally, Pimblett mentioned other potential opponents, including the loser of the upcoming Max Holloway vs. Charles Oliveira bout, and even Arman Tsarukyan, underlining his readiness for any fight the UFC might offer.
