UFC welterweight Gilbert Burns continues to feel disappointment regarding one specific losing performance in his professional record.
Burns is set to headline UFC Vegas 106 this Saturday at the Apex facility. The seasoned contender is stepping back into competition after a period where securing consecutive victories has been challenging for him.
Since his memorable challenge for the title against Kamaru Usman in 2021, where he nearly scored an early upset, Burns has accumulated a 3-4 win-loss record inside the Octagon. His recent string of three straight defeats marks the most difficult results-wise stretch of his entire professional mixed martial arts career.
While experiencing defeat is always tough, Burns recently shared that one loss in particular felt more agonizing than the others.
Gilbert Burns Gets Candid About His Performance Against Sean Brady
During the UFC Vegas 106 media day on Wednesday, Burns previewed his upcoming fight and reflected on his current standing within the welterweight division. He specifically addressed the results that have impacted his position in the title picture, noting that his most recent loss, against Sean Brady, was the most frustrating.
Burns explained his perspective on his recent setbacks. He stated that in the fight against Belal Muhammad, he suffered an injury early on, but acknowledged that Belal deserved the win. Regarding the fight with Jack Della Maddalena, Burns felt things were going well until he made a mistake, admitting that despite moments of success, he ultimately didn`t win the fight.
However, he emphasized that the loss to Sean Brady was the one that bothered him most because he felt like he “didn`t show up” for the fight. He conceded that all three recent losses are difficult but believes that only minor adjustments are needed.
Gilbert Burns Must Overcome Undefeated Prospect Michael Morales to End Losing Streak
Saturday`s event in Las Vegas presents Burns with his next chance to return to the win column, but achieving this victory will be a formidable task. Standing across the Octagon from the Brazilian, who is aiming for his 16th UFC win, will be Michael Morales, an unbeaten prospect from Ecuador who boasts a perfect 17-0 professional record, including five wins in the UFC.
The 25-year-old Morales is coming off an impressive first-round knockout win over veteran welterweight Neil Magny, an opponent whom Burns has also faced in the past.
Burns is entering UFC Vegas 106 as a considerable underdog. Having previously delivered valiant performances under similar underdog circumstances against fighters like Kamaru Usman and Khamzat Chimaev, the Brazilian will aim to take it a step further this time and secure a victory over Michael Morales.
