From Ancient Tree to Modern Medicine: Uncovering the Benefits of Ginkgo Biloba for Stroke Victims

Published

on

A traditional Chinese herbal remedy made from one of the oldest living tree species, the ginkgo biloba, has been shown to aid in the recovery of stroke victims, according to a new study. Researchers analyzed the overall recovery of more than three thousand stroke survivors who were treated for mild to moderate strokes at multiple centers in China. The dried leaves and seeds of the ginkgo tree, which is native to East Asia, have antioxidant properties that may protect nerve cells from damage. In the future, ginkgo biloba may be used to improve cognitive function for patients after strokes, and possibly other neurological illnesses like Parkinson’s or Alzheimer’s. Once again it seems that nature has the cure for us all.
