Mobile Operators in Myanmar Compelled to Support Military Draft with Mobile Notifications to Men 18 to 35-Year-Old

Myanmar’s military has mandated mobile providers to send draft notifications to men 18 to 35 years old, stirring anxiety among citizens. this directive is part of the regime’s efforts to strengthen its forces amidst increasing instances of shutting down mobile connections to combat rebel activities. Mobile operators, including the state-owned Myanma Posts and Telecommunications (MPT), are caught in a difficult position, balancing operational challenges and the imperative to serve Myanmar’s residents.

MPT, recognizing the critical nature of its services, had previously waived fees post-cyclone, showcasing its commitment to the community amidst operational pressures. this situation highlights the deepening crisis as the military tightens its control, impacting ordinary citizens’ lives through fear of conscription and disruptions in essential communication services.
