Lone’er Kavanagh significantly advanced his standing in the flyweight division with a decisive victory over Brandon Moreno at UFC Mexico.
The first round saw both fighters exhibiting caution, but Kavanagh’s relentless assault of powerful calf kicks began to take a toll on Moreno’s lead leg.
By the middle of the second round, Moreno was visibly shaking his leg, his calf showing increasing signs of bruising. Seizing this advantage, Kavanagh landed a counter right, leaving the former flyweight champion unsteady.
Sensing a potential finish, Kavanagh intensified his attack, coming close to stopping Moreno. Despite the severe pressure, ‘The Assassin Baby’ endured the onslaught and survived the round.
In the third round, Moreno successfully slowed Kavanagh’s pace by attempting several takedowns against the cage. Although he couldn’t take Kavanagh down, Moreno effectively nullified the Brit’s offensive output for the remainder of the round.
‘The Assassin Baby’ continued this strategy in the fourth, spending a significant portion of the round clinching Kavanagh against the fence. Upon breaking free, Kavanagh delivered another damaging calf kick, causing Moreno to visibly wince.
The fifth round saw Moreno persist with clinches, yet Kavanagh managed to land the meaningful strikes, connecting with a counter left and another impactful calf kick against ‘The Assassin Baby’.
Moreno accumulated a few more seconds of control time before the final bell, but ultimately, it was insufficient to secure the win for the former champion.
Official Result: Lone’er Kavanagh defeated Brandon Moreno by unanimous decision (49-46, 48-47, 48-47).
