Kevin Lee is reportedly considering his future in mixed martial arts following a significant knockout defeat and the resulting injuries he sustained last Friday.
In his PFL debut, Lee faced the highly-regarded Gadzhi Rabadanov in the PFL 6 main event, a semifinal bout in the lightweight world tournament. Rabadanov, entering as a heavy betting favorite, landed powerful punches on Lee for over half a round before ultimately knocking out the former UFC competitor, sending him face-first to the canvas.
After the loss, Lee shared his thoughts on the outcome, expressing doubts about his current ability to withstand strikes during a fight.
Lee posted on Twitter, stating, “I’m not a coward. At least I can say that I tried. I shot for the stars.” He continued, revealing physical concerns: “My legs just aren’t what they used to be. I can’t absorb shots anymore and honestly I don’t know if it will come back.”
Lee also disclosed that he sustained a jaw injury during the fight, which required his jaw to be wired shut.
This marks a difficult period for Lee, once seen as a fighter and potential star with immense talent. Known as “Motown Phenom,” he has lost four of his last six fights, including defeats by stoppage against Charles Oliveira and Rinat Fakhretdinov. His only recent victories were against Diego Sanchez under the Eagle FC banner and a finish on the regional circuit at Lights Out Championship.
As for Rabadanov, he moves forward to the championship fight where he will face Alfie Davis. The victor of that bout will receive $500,000.
