Heavyweight fighter Waldo Cortes-Acosta encountered an awkward situation during his fight against Serghei Spivac at UFC 316 when his shorts suffered a malfunction.

The event, held in Newark, New Jersey, featured significant matchups including Sean O’Malley vs. Merab Dvalishvili and Julianna Pena vs. Kayla Harrison. However, a preliminary heavyweight bout unexpectedly drew considerable attention due to an issue with a fighter`s gear mid-fight.

Waldo Cortes-Acosta Changes Shorts After Malfunction in the Octagon

Waldo Cortes-Acosta, aiming to build on his four consecutive wins in the UFC, faced the respected heavyweight contender Serghei Spivac on the undercard of UFC 316. Coming off a performance against Robelis Despaigne that UFC President Dana White criticized for lacking aggression, Cortes-Acosta, known as `Salsa Boy`, was likely looking to make a strong impression.

Despite this, the initial rounds of the fight against `The Polar Bear` were largely tactical with limited significant action. It was during the break between the second and third rounds that the embarrassing moment occurred. Cortes-Acosta`s shorts ripped, leaving him standing in his corner with only his briefs visible.

His corner team quickly brought a replacement pair of shorts into the cage. What happened next elicited a humorous reaction from commentator Joe Rogan, as Cortes-Acosta decided to tear the sides of the new shorts himself.

“Changing your pants in the middle of the Octagon, look at that,” observed commentator Daniel Cormier.

“He`s just ripped them himself,” Rogan laughed, reacting to the fighter`s improvised adjustment.

Daniel Cormier Questions the Official Judging

Ultimately, Cortes-Acosta secured his fifth victory in a row, potentially propelling him into the top 10 rankings of the heavyweight division. Despite the win, Daniel Cormier voiced concerns about the judges` scoring following the fight, specifically highlighting one judge`s 30-27 scorecard in favor of `Salsa Boy`.

“Yeah, round one he could’ve won and round three he could’ve won honestly… We’ve come to see this time and time again now, sometimes the judges just don’t see it like we do,” Cormier commented, expressing his disagreement with the lopsided score.
