Former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jiří Procházka remains focused on a potential third encounter with Alex Pereira, even as both fighters navigate new paths in their careers.
Pereira, a formidable two-division champion, having held titles at both middleweight and light heavyweight, recently announced his decision to vacate his 205-pound title and move up to the heavyweight division. The Brazilian is scheduled to make his heavyweight debut on June 14, where he will face Ciryl Gane for the interim championship. Pereira’s stated ambition is to become the UFC’s first-ever three-division titleholder.
Meanwhile, Procházka is preparing for his own significant challenge. He is set to fight Carlos Ulberg in the main event of UFC 327, with the clear objective of reclaiming the light heavyweight championship.
Prochazka Discusses Heavyweight Shift and Pereira Trilogy
In a recent interview, Procházka reiterated his strong desire for a third fight against “Poatan,” even suggesting that this highly anticipated trilogy bout could take place in the heavyweight division. Pereira has previously defeated Procházka by knockout in their two prior encounters, adding a layer of personal redemption to the potential rematch.
Procházka expressed considerable confidence in his ability to compete effectively at heavyweight, stating that a move to the 265-pound division would be well within his capabilities. He believes that his natural attributes—speed, precision, and superior conditioning—would provide him with a distinct advantage over many current heavyweights. “I don’t really care which weight I am fighting,” Procházka commented, drawing on his past experience fighting heavyweights in Rizin. He confidently asserted, “I can push my body to show much more bigger strength and be able to fight with these types of guys, with these heavyweights, and still be faster, more endurance, precise, all these things, so it’s a really good idea for me.”
Regarding a potential third fight with Pereira, the 33-year-old Czech fighter affirmed his belief in his ability to turn the tables: “If I meet Alex in the future for a third fight, I hope, and I believe that I will show my best and I will win.”
Procházka also acknowledged the slim chances of Pereira moving back down to light heavyweight, noting that “Poatan” has indicated his intention to conclude his UFC career in his new heavyweight division.
For now, Procházka’s immediate focus is squarely on defeating Ulberg at UFC 327 and securing the light heavyweight belt. Following that crucial step, a highly anticipated trilogy bout against Pereira could become a very realistic and exciting prospect for fans.
