Jake Paul has declared his intention to force Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. into a difficult retirement from boxing, mockingly adding, “I`ll be there for you.”
Chavez Jr., a former middleweight world champion and son of the iconic Mexican boxer Julio Cesar Sr., had previously suggested he would end his career if he lost the upcoming fight.
However, the 39-year-old fighter seemed to backtrack on this statement when questioned about the stakes for Saturday`s bout in California.
Speaking through a translator, Chavez Jr. dismissed his earlier remark, saying, “No, I just said that to say something. I`m definitely not going to lose, I`m definitely not going to retire.” He asserted, “I`m going to continue with my career and Jake`s going to continue to do whatever it is he needs to do.”
Paul, the YouTube personality who transitioned to boxing, presented a different perspective, promising to embarrass the son of the legend so comprehensively that his career would be finished.
Jake Paul`s Taunt
“Oh yeah, this is it for him. And I`m going to feel bad. I`m genuinely sorry, I want to apologise in advance because I know the emotional turmoil you`re going to go through. You`re going to go into hiding, that`s who you are you love to go and hide. That`s what`s going to happen and I really want to say I`m sorry for what`s going to happen. And I`ll be there for you, I`m always there for my opponents after I beat their ass.”
The 28-year-old Paul is making his return to the ring for the first time since his controversial November fight against the 58-year-old Mike Tyson.
In contrast, Chavez Sr., widely revered as Mexico`s greatest boxer, offered his take on the matchup.
Chavez Sr. Responds
“Jake Paul just fought against Mike Tyson, who didn`t even throw one punch. This is not Mike Tyson. You`re going to get your ass whooped. Julio is going to go in and throw some serious punches and you`re going to be running like a chicken with no head.”
Paul, who holds a professional record of 11 wins and 1 loss, simply retorted, “We`ve heard it all before.”
