Ipswich Town captain Sam Morsy, a player who recently featured in the Premier League, has revealed that he secretly boxed during his childhood and even won an amateur fight.

Morsy is now lending his support to heavyweight boxer Fabio Wardley, who is a big Ipswich fan. Wardley is scheduled to fight Australia`s Justis Huni this Saturday at his home ground, Portman Road.

Expressing his enthusiasm for the bout, Morsy described it as an “historic event” for Wardley. He reminisced about his time boxing as a child during summer holidays, noting how much he enjoyed it.

Morsy, who joined Ipswich in 2021 and led them to back-to-back promotions before their recent relegation from the top flight, is pleased to see Wardley thrive as part of the “Ipswich family.”

When asked what advice he would give Wardley on fight night, Morsy offered a simple message: “You’re living your dream. Be brave, be bold, trust yourself – you’ve got it.”

Wardley spoke about the immense support he has received from the entire club, describing it as hard to put into words. He highlighted the backing from players, staff, and particularly CEO Mark Ashton, whose enthusiasm was crucial in making the fight at Portman Road a reality.

Wardley feels a deep sense of gratitude, stating the club`s strong ethos is about looking after its own. Over 20,000 fans are anticipated to attend the fight at Portman Road.
