Ian Machado Garry humorously attacked the new UFC welterweight champion, Jack Della Maddalena, drawing a comparison to an unsightly action figure.

At UFC 315 earlier this month, Jack Della Maddalena ended Belal Muhammad`s brief time as welterweight champion, securing a dominant unanimous decision victory in Canada.

Among those present was 170lb standout Ian Machado Garry, who had served as a backup fighter for the main event, having recently defeated Carlos Prates at UFC Kansas City.

Having weighed in as a potential replacement hoping to earn a title opportunity, the Irish fighter stated he would repeat this action to position himself as a top contender in the welterweight division.

However, Machado Garry may need to wait some time for a title challenge, as Della Maddalena is anticipated to defend his belt first against Islam Makhachev.

Before UFC 315, Della Maddalena commented on Machado Garry`s son, leading the Irishman to call the Australian `immature`.

Nonetheless, the 27-year-old fighter took a humorous jab at the new welterweight champion, likening Della Maddalena to an unappealing action figure in a video shared online.

“I`m currently in a comic book store in England, and I`m genuinely surprised. I`ve never witnessed the UFC produce an action figure this quickly. Jack Della Maddalena, buddy, I`m so proud of you, look at this! World champion, and you`ve got your own action figure. Well done, pal. I`m very proud of you, great work,” Machado Garry commented while displaying a Sloth figure from The Goonies.

Jack Della Maddalena Returns to Training Shortly After Title Victory

Even after potentially sustaining some injuries from his tough five-round bout, Della Maddalena has already resumed training in anticipation of a possible fight against Islam Makhachev.

While no official date is confirmed for their championship bout, October is considered the most probable timeframe, aligning with the UFC`s planned return to Abu Dhabi.

The Australian athlete had hoped the promotion would schedule the fight in his home country, but Makhachev`s manager indicated this is improbable.
