Francis Ngannou has issued a statement addressing his involvement in a tragic motorcycle incident in his home country of Cameroon. The accident tragically resulted in the death of a 17-year-old girl who succumbed to her injuries.
Reports indicate the collision occurred over the Easter weekend in the Omnisports district of Yaounde, Cameroon. Ngannou was reportedly riding a motorcycle that collided with the young woman. While specific details surrounding the crash are not yet fully released, the victim sustained injuries to her arm and leg. Ngannou is reported to have quickly transported her to a local medical facility for treatment.
Tragically, despite the efforts made, the young woman could not be saved and passed away at Yaounde General Hospital.
“From the very beginning, I have been by the family’s side, offering support, comfort, and deepest condolences during this time,” Ngannou told TMZ Sports. “I’ve met with them privately to share in their grief, and I will continue to stand with them every step of the way. I carry their pain with me, and my unwavering thoughts and support remain with them as they face this heartbreaking loss.”
Cameroonian authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident.
The 38-year-old Ngannou`s most recent combat sports appearance was in October, when he made his PFL debut. He secured a dominant first-round victory over Renan Ferreira, marking his return to mixed martial arts after more than two years away from the sport.
Prior to his PFL return, Ngannou transitioned to boxing, participating in high-profile matches against Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua. These bouts took place after he departed from the UFC as a free agent.
This tragic event follows a difficult period for the former heavyweight champion, who recently shared in April 2024 that his 15-month-old son, Kobe, had passed away suddenly.
