Longtime coach Don Charles is still struggling to accept the abrupt conclusion of his professional relationship with heavyweight boxer Daniel Dubois (22-3, 21 KOs). During their successful collaboration, the pair achieved the IBF heavyweight world title, which Dubois subsequently lost to Oleksandr Usyk.
“The decision to part ways was not made by Daniel himself. Someone clearly interfered in our relationship. I am 100% sure he was not capable of making such a decision on his own,” Charles commented.
He emphasized the negative impact on the fighter: “It affects him the most because he is the one stepping into the ring. He should be the one making key decisions, not someone else. I am very disappointed, very saddened, but this will never change what we have achieved together. No one can take that away from us.”
Despite the unexpected rift, Charles remains highly optimistic about Dubois`s championship potential.
“If Daniel gets the chance, a second time, and then possibly a third time, he will become the heavyweight world champion. He has all the prerequisites for that,” Charles concluded.
