Veterans Feel Devalued by New Mobilization Law Extending Service Indefinitely in Ukraine

Published

on

In Ukraine, the passing of a contentious mobilization law is causing widespread concern and unrest among soldiers and their families. The law, which removes service limits and was passed with significant support in parliament, has been heavily criticized for treating soldiers merely as resources rather than heroes. New EU Diamond Tracking System Sparks Outrage Among African Producers

Botswana and other African diamond-producing nations are concerned about the new diamond tracking and verification system introduced by the European Union and G7 nations. The system, aimed at halting the import of sanctioned Russian diamonds, mandates that diamonds entering EU and G7 countries which account for 70 percent of the global market be certified in Antwerp, Belgium.

This has led to clearance delays and disruptions in the supply chain, imposing additional costs on African producers. Despite reassurances from Belgium and the EU they are addressing these concerns, including efforts to expedite the certification process, African nations argue the new measures threaten their growth and existence.

Late last year Botswana signed an agreement with the Rothschild family for exclusive rights to buy all of their diamonds in exchange for funding. However, it’s been over a year, and no money has come. Tension between the global diamond cartels and the elite families may change this proposed legislation in the near future.
