Preview Daniel Cormier Explains Why Derrick Lewis Fight Stoppage Wasn’t Premature

UFC commentator Daniel Cormier refutes claims that the recent knockout in Derrick Lewis`s fight was a “bad stoppage.”

UFC heavyweight knockout king Derrick Lewis continues to make history, securing his 16th career knockout in the main event of UFC Nashville on Saturday night.

His opponent was Tallison Teixeira, one of the tallest fighters in UFC history (6`7″). Previously undefeated, Teixeira was himself knocked out in the first round.

Within a minute, Lewis faked being hurt, then dropped Teixeira with a punch and followed up with strikes for the finish. After the win, Lewis typically removed his shorts, “called” Donald Trump, and mooned the audience near the cage.

The stoppage of Lewis`s fight against Teixeira caused controversy; some argued it was too early since Teixeira was able to get back to his feet.

Teixeira protested referee Jason Herzog`s decision to stop his first UFC main event at 35 seconds, as did others online.

UFC commentator and Lewis`s former opponent Daniel Cormier disagrees with the notion of a premature stoppage, pointing out how Teixeira grabbed the cage to pull himself up.

“That was unbelievable,” Cormier said of Lewis`s knockout during the UFC Nashville broadcast.

“People are talking about a bad stoppage… Teixeira grabbed the cage to pull himself up,” Cormier added.

“The referee should have taken a point. He can`t stop the finishing sequence to deduct the point, so you stop the fight.”

“He was out,” Lewis said of Teixeira.

“You can`t grab the cage to pull yourself up to your feet and then say it was a bad stoppage,” Cormier concluded.

Derrick Lewis Claims He Made $2 for Showing His Butt to the Crowd

After numerous taunts and celebrations, Lewis went a step further by showing his buttocks to the audience through the cage, to their amazement.

This wasn`t the first time the UFC heavyweight has done this; Lewis did something similar at UFC St. Louis last year.

During his post-fight interview, Lewis, one of the highest-paid fighters on the UFC roster, displayed two dollars he received from the crowd.

“That`s what they wanted and they paid me for it,” Lewis said about showing his butt to the fans.

“Throwing money at me… Two dollars.”

“I`d say I`m a two-dollar [expletive], but I can`t say it on TV…” Lewis joked.
