Renato Moicano Faces 'Must-Win' Challenge Against Teammate Chris Duncan Amidst Losing Streak
Renato Moicano heads into his upcoming main event bout against Chris Duncan with a clear understanding of the significant stakes. The seasoned fighter, scheduled to compete on April 4, 2026, at the Meta APEX in Las Vegas, views this clash as an absolute necessity for victory, especially as he aims to bounce back from two consecutive defeats.
During the UFC Vegas 115 media day, Moicano candidly addressed the critical importance of the fight. "This is likely a must-win situation," he stated, drawing parallels to an earlier challenging period in his career. He reflected on previous back-to-back losses to Chan Sung Jung and Jose Aldo during his featherweight run, which prompted a significant career reset.
More recently, Moicano's record of 20-7-1 has been marked by losses to Islam Makhachev via D’Arce choke at UFC 311 in January 2025, and to Beneil Dariush by unanimous decision in June 2025. Now competing at lightweight, he acknowledged the emotional weight of his current losing streak. "Of course, two losses add pressure; it's never good to lose, it's terrible," he confessed. However, this pressure also fuels his ambition: "But it’s so good when you win, so I want to get that feeling of winning again, especially in a main event."
Moicano is no stranger to the main event spotlight, having previously secured a notable second-round TKO victory over Benoît Saint Denis in Paris in September 2024. That performance helped solidify his position in the 155-pound division.
His opponent, Chris Duncan, also hailing from American Top Team, enters the octagon with considerable momentum, boasting an impressive four-fight win streak. While the matchup between teammates adds an intriguing dynamic to the headlining slot, for Moicano, the primary focus remains firmly on securing a crucial victory to overcome his recent setbacks.
Despite the immediate pressure, Moicano maintains a philosophical perspective on his journey. "I believe in God and I believe things happen for a reason," he shared, expressing confidence that the challenges he faces are part of a larger, unfolding plan. "Maybe we don’t know the reason, but a couple of years later you’re going to know why your career played out like that. I’m a fan of the UFC and I remember all moments with good memories.”
