Islam Makhachev Nearing UFC Win Record: Anderson Silva Expresses Support
UFC icon Anderson Silva has openly expressed his delight at the prospect of Islam Makhachev surpassing his long-standing record of 16 consecutive victories within the promotion.
Islam Makhachev is currently widely recognized as an elite mixed martial artist, potentially ranking among the greatest of all time. While he has already amassed significant achievements throughout his career, fans are particularly eager to see what the dominant champion will accomplish next, especially if he moves to the welterweight division (170 pounds).
Makhachev has firmly established himself as a versatile and dominating force. Should he secure a victory in his upcoming bout, he would become the first fighter in UFC history to achieve 17 consecutive wins, thereby eclipsing Anderson Silva's impressive record.
In a recent interview, Anderson Silva shared his perspectives on Islam Makhachev's rapid ascent in the sport, as well as his own current level of engagement with mixed martial arts.
Anderson Silva's Thoughts on Makhachev's Record Pursuit
“Anything is achievable,” Silva remarked. “I’m delighted when someone breaks this record, and I believe future generations will continue to surpass it repeatedly. This presents a healthy challenge for everyone.”
He further added, “I don’t believe fighters enter the cage with the sole intention of breaking records. They simply focus on their job, and then, suddenly, they realize they’ve achieved something remarkable. It’s a pleasant surprise.”
Silva also spoke about his personal relationship with watching MMA: “I dedicated my whole life to watching MMA – observing as a student, analyzing opponents, and identifying ways to improve my own movements. However, I no longer watch it. Once I concluded my MMA career, I stopped following the sport because there was no longer a need to study for upcoming fights. During my active years, I constantly analyzed MMA fights; now, that phase is over.”
Prepare yourselves, as we may soon witness a historic achievement at the pinnacle of the sport.
