Arnold Allen Accepts May Main Event While Enjoying Fish and Chips
British featherweight Arnold Allen is set to headline his second UFC bout of 2026, scheduled for May at the Meta APEX.
Allen humorously recounted the moment he received the call for the upcoming spring fight during an interview. "I was literally eating fish and chips," he shared. "My manager asked if I wanted to fight in nine weeks. I said I'd call him back in the morning after weighing myself, then agreed, 'Yeah, I'll make that happen.' It's great to be back, buzzing."
Allen's last appearance was at UFC 324 in January, where he suffered a close and controversial decision loss to fan-favorite Jean Silva. That bout marked his return after nearly 18 months on the sidelines due to injury. Historically, inactivity has been a recurring challenge for the British fighter, but he aims to overcome this in 2026.
Arnold Allen Previews Challenge Against Melquizael Costa
Ranked number 8 in the featherweight division with just one win in his last four fights, Allen is now in a critical position, needing to defend his spot against emerging talent. He offered his thoughts on his next opponent, Melquizael Costa:
"Mate, he's surging and full of confidence," Allen acknowledged. "He just knocked out a guy [Dan Ige] who had never been finished before, with a sick back kick. So yeah, I'm excited for the challenge. He's another southpaw, which makes for a scrappy, somewhat awkward fight, but it's definitely going to be a fight."
Melquizael Costa, the Brazilian standout, earns this opportunity against his most formidable opponent yet, following a series of electrifying UFC performances. Boasting a 7-2 UFC record, Costa is currently on an impressive six-fight win streak, including four finishes. He's also one of the roster's most active fighters, having competed five times since February 2025. With highlight-reel finishes matching his distinctive multi-colored hair, Costa is seen as a rising star. He also proudly embraces his vitiligo, using his platform to inspire children living with the same condition.
Who do you predict will emerge victorious in the main event clash between Arnold Allen and Melquizael Costa on May 16th?
