Arman Tsarukyan Discusses His Relationship with Dana White and Pursuit of the UFC Lightweight Title
UFC lightweight standout Arman Tsarukyan has recently offered insights into his dynamic with UFC President Dana White, particularly regarding his determined pursuit of the lightweight championship. Tsarukyan has openly vocalized his ambition for a title shot, despite White reportedly expressing some disapproval, which is said to stem from Tsarukyan's actions outside the competitive arena.
With Ilia Topuria and Justin Gaethje slated to unify the lightweight belt at an upcoming major event, Tsarukyan remains in a holding pattern. He awaits clarity on whether he needs to secure another victory to earn his title opportunity or if he will directly receive the call for a championship bout.
In a recent candid interview, Arman Tsarukyan openly addressed his feelings about his professional relationship with the UFC head.
Tsarukyan's Stance on Dana White and UFC Negotiations
“I don’t know why Dana speaks ill of me, but I have no problem with them or any behind-the-scenes issues,” Tsarukyan stated. He elaborated on his negotiation process, clarifying, “There’s no point in addressing him because I don’t negotiate with him. I’m in talks with Hunter Campbell because he’s in charge of matchmaking. Dana probably just approves everything related to fights. The actual matchmakers are Sean Shelby and Hunter, so I’ve got nothing to say to Dana.”
Tsarukyan further highlighted his direct communication with the matchmakers, adding, “I need to ask Hunter for a fight, and we talked this morning, and he gave me a date for my next fight.”
Regardless of any perceived tension, many within the sport believe Arman Tsarukyan has unequivocally earned his right to challenge for the championship. While he has previously expressed interest in a potential rematch with Charles Oliveira for the BMF title, the UFC's willingness to put that specific accolade on the line in such a matchup remains uncertain, especially considering Oliveira’s recent performance. The lightweight division, widely recognized for its depth of formidable talent, is poised to continue its legacy as one of the sport's most compelling weight classes.
