Preview Charles Oliveira Sets Sights on Conor McGregor White House Showdown, Challenging Michael Chandler

UFC lightweight contender Charles Oliveira has publicly expressed his ambition to face Conor McGregor at a rumored White House event in 2026, directly challenging Michael Chandler for the coveted opportunity.

Oliveira is preparing for his upcoming bout at UFC Rio this Saturday, marking his return to the octagon after a knockout loss to Ilia Topuria at UFC 317 in June. While acknowledging that a straightforward path back to the 155-pound title might be difficult, Oliveira is exploring other high-profile fight options, with a potential White House event standing out.

Ever since President Donald Trump announced plans for a UFC event at the White House, numerous fighters have voiced their interest in competing. Oliveira is the latest to join this group, specifically stating his desire to fight McGregor, who is widely anticipated to headline such a historic card.

McGregor has been inactive since July 2021. After recovering from a severe leg injury, his highly anticipated matchup against Michael Chandler was postponed due to a toe injury. Chandler has been the subject of considerable ridicule for his persistent efforts to secure this fight, but reignited his campaign following McGregor`s hints about returning for the White House event. However, Chandler now faces a formidable rival in Oliveira, a fighter who has previously defeated him twice.

Oliveira`s Vision for a McGregor Clash

During a media day ahead of his October 11 fight against Mateusz Gamrot at UFC Rio, Oliveira briefly discussed his aspirations for 2026. Despite the long-standing expectation that Chandler would be McGregor`s opponent for his comeback, Oliveira believes he is the perfect contender to challenge the UFC`s first simultaneous two-division champion.

“When we talk about legacy, I think this will be something huge,” Oliveira stated when questioned about the prospect of fighting at the White House. “Why not have a big fight there? So if the UFC needs me, I’m ready.”

He further clarified his intentions: “Everyone knows which fight it would be. Charles Oliveira vs Conor McGregor. That would be the fight. The money fight.”

McGregor`s Eligibility for the White House Event

Conor McGregor`s ability to headline the projected 2026 White House event remains unaffected by his recent anti-doping suspension. He received an 18-month suspension from Combat Sports Anti-Doping (CSAD) after three whereabouts violations in 2024.

The suspension is retroactive to September 20, 2024, which means McGregor will be eligible to compete again from March 20, 2026. Considering that the UFC White House event is reportedly scheduled for June 14 – President Trump’s birthday – McGregor is still a prime candidate to feature on the card next summer.
