Imanol Rodriguez Secures Dramatic TKO Victory at UFC Mexico, Extends Undefeated Streak
Imanol Rodriguez further solidified his impressive perfect record, moving to 7-0 with a spectacular second-round technical knockout against Kevin Borjas during Saturday's UFC Mexico event.
The fight began with high drama, as Borjas came perilously close to ending the contest early in the first round. He connected with a brutal counter left, sending the highly-touted Rodriguez crashing to the canvas. Sensing a potential finish, Borjas immediately swarmed Rodriguez, unleashing a barrage of strikes.
However, just as it seemed Rodriguez's undefeated run was in jeopardy, he demonstrated remarkable composure. He managed to secure a crucial takedown, providing himself with a much-needed opportunity to recover from the intense assault.
Rodriguez controlled Borjas on the ground for over three minutes in the opening round, though this extensive control time likely wasn't enough to completely negate the impact of the early knockdown from Borjas.
Despite being dropped in the first frame, Rodriguez showed no hesitation in engaging on the feet for the second round. After more than four minutes of intense striking exchanges, Rodriguez launched an overhand right that appeared to clip Borjas' temple. The strike proved to be decisive; Borjas' legs buckled, prompting Rodriguez to capitalize by escalating his attack with a relentless flurry of punches. The referee swiftly intervened, stopping the fight.
Official Result: Imanol Rodriguez defeated Kevin Borjas via TKO (overhand right to ground-and-pound) at 4:21 of Round 2.
