Following a triumphant night in Las Vegas, Alex Pereira has ambitious plans for his next UFC appearance. Prior to briefly losing his light heavyweight championship earlier this year, `Poatan` had already expressed his intention to ascend to a higher weight class. With the 205-pound gold now firmly back around his waist after UFC 320, Pereira has reaffirmed his aspirations to compete at heavyweight.

While Dana White might be hesitant about Pereira`s further ascent, a clash between `Poatan` and the returning Jon Jones would undoubtedly be monumental. Such a bout would offer `Poatan` the extraordinary opportunity to equal a storied record, facing off against the universally acknowledged greatest fighter of all time.

Alex Pereira Could Equal Anderson Silva`s Title Fight Knockout Record Against Jon Jones

Alex Pereira etched his name alongside Jon Jones in the history books on October 4, becoming only the third fighter to claim the UFC light heavyweight title twice. `Poatan` also secured another significant achievement by stopping Magomed Ankalaev in the opening round, becoming the sole UFC fighter to accumulate exactly six knockouts in championship contests within the Octagon.

Despite Pereira`s remarkable success, many still regard Anderson Silva as Brazil`s greatest mixed martial artist of all time. `The Spider`, whose last knockout in a UFC title fight occurred all the way back at UFC 148 in 2012 against Chael Sonnen, currently holds the record for the most knockouts in title bouts with seven.

A fight between Pereira and Jones, especially if it were to headline a major event, would carry immense significance. The prospect of `Poatan` equaling Silva`s enduring record by becoming the first man to finish Jones would simply add another captivating layer to this highly anticipated matchup.

Another UFC 320 Fighter Ties Record for Most Consecutive Knockout Wins

One fighter at UFC 320 continued his impressive breakout year, having signed with the promotion in September 2024. Ateba Gautier secured an opening-round stoppage against Treston Vines, who stepped in as a late replacement for Ozzy Diaz. With this victory, Gautier has now achieved three consecutive first-round knockouts inside the Octagon. This accomplishment places him alongside current UFC champions Tom Aspinall and Ilia Topuria for the longest active UFC knockout streak.
